SG 2TEK Custom Build

I am loving it! I would have passed on the skull and crossbones, but I don't live in a former penal colony <grin>

Yeah I know, not everyones cup of tea.  :laughing7:

But I got a Squire bass with skulls (only bass I have) this SG will look great hanging next to it on the wall.

:icon_scratch: .... Now, how do I line the sperzel tuners up on this Warmoth headstock ?
You can either make them all inline with each other, or contour them to the angle relative to their position on the headstock.  I prefer the look of them going with the headstock angle to straight but it's your call.

Hey thanks AutoBat  :icon_thumright:  that's what I kind of thought.

Think I have a pic of yours somewhere in the depths of my HD.

Nice Ebony, I hope mine looks that good....I didnt opt for the Unique choice... "pray to the Wood Gods"...this should be one articulate tone monster for sure......power chord heaven.....love how its coming together.....

I would probably keep the tuners square to the head at each tuner hole, kind of fit it to the contour of the headstock following it as the head curves, especially if the tuners are smaller and fit tight to the headstock.

What AutoBat said.....

My G is a little off. I think it moved a smidge when I was marking it to drill.  Oh well, I still love it anyways.  It's not noticable from most angles anyhow.
Actually I didn't see it until I took this pic back in April.

Interesting.  My brain wants to see the tuners perpendicular to an imaginary line running up the center of the headstock.  They look odd to me when they are perpendicular to a tangent of the curve of the headstock edge.

6 inline tuners are perpendicular to the headstock.
Functionally there's no difference betwixt the two methods.  I suppose you could just hodgepodge them on and it'd still work (maybe an abstract artist would do that)

That is seriously cool Murray, all but the bridge. It just doesn't fit with the guitar.... :dontknow:

Thanks all.  :icon_thumright:

Make notes to one self …........
Doug ... doesn't like 2TEK, usually a Floyd man.  :party07:
Cagey ... doesn't like skull and bones or vintage 6 hole trem.

Autobat ….. well  :dontknow:  we all know that one.  :laughing7:

Anyone else I should add ?  :icon_jokercolor:

Actually the unique choice Black Ebony on this custom one isn't as Dark as on this one. (which was a showcase item)
http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=17679.0
I picked the darkest one there at the time, but is no way as Dark as that other showcase one.
(I'll get a pic of the 2 together) to show what I mean.
Could of saved myself $45 bucks.
Hope you get a beauty !!  :icon_thumright:

THIS IS WHAT I ORDERED ............ BLACK IN BLACK  :guitarplayer2:
9741db73.jpg

Anyway …
With the tuners, Sperzel, I really don't know which way to go, leaning more to straight with each other.
Rather than with the curves of the headstock, each one is at a slightly different angle to the other, by the curves.
Kind-of looks strange to me.  :tard:
Mainly because, they are black tuners on the yellow and the clear satin nitro.

Because they are Sperzels with the one pin, I have had a look and could put them in straight 1st up (which I'll do)  :dontknow:
and if I wanted / needed to change them, there is plenty of room under the tuner housing to hide the other drill hole.

Photobucket is playing up ATM  ... I had front on pic's to add

RUFF MOCK UPS ....

:redflag:  Your thoughts (again) please .... Straight or Curved ?
I looked at VIP's and LP's around the place, and it's about 50 /50

It's not that I don't like it, it just doesn't fit with an SG, I'm sure it's a sweet bridge. Just looks like it belongs more on a strat... :dontknow:

It's a tough call, but I'd put the pegs in line. Following the edge sorta looks like you weren't paying any attention while mounting. Or, it's my OCD kicking up.

It's just your OCD... :laughing7:

Yep I agree with the masses on this one the tuners definantly look better inline like the top pic shows......guess I was off on that one...just goes to show ya...you really have to be there to know.....nice looking tuners for that neck by the way.  :icon_thumright:

:icon_scratch:  Holy Crap .... for a minute there I thought I'd posted the same pic's 3 times.
No it was people quoting the whole page again

Oh Dougie boy, what are we gunna do with you. I was just joking around  :laughing7:

I think it's the shape of these tuner buttons I'm using that just look better straight in line.
Those smaller buttons I would probably follow the headstock edge.

Anyway ..
After reading others thoughts on the tuner line up ...
I had a look at the bass I have here (pic in earlier post) which is kind-of like the Warmoth headstock, in reverse.
Those tuners are mounted in line with each other (well kind-of  :tard:  it's made in indonesia)  :laughing11:

So I decided I'd put them on straight.
While I was at it I finished the guitar, all thou it's late here, I've just played it for a while  :party07:
Well more tweaking than playing.
SD Invaders sound MUCH better  :headbang:  than I was thinking they might, was  :dontknow:  thinking muddy for some reason.
The split neck sounds absolutely CRAP
The split bridge sounds ok thou.
(Might revert those)
Only just done in the last few hours so ........
I haven't given the 2TEK a good listen or look at in recording etc as yet.

So far happy how it feels / looks and more than happy with the SD Invaders.

Pic's to come ........... tomorrow  :icon_biggrin:
