I'm getting a HH Jazzcaster body made soon and for pickups I'm between Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates and '59 humbuckers.
For the neck I'm going to be using a Warmoth Pro Maple Neck/Fretboard that I have on my Mexican Fender Telecaster right now.  I will also be coil spliting the pickups with a push/pull pot.  Just about everything other than the pickups and body are ordered.

They're very similar pickups. They're both based on pickups from 59 LPs, the difference is that the PG is a little more ballsy, ruder if you will.

Personally I really like them both, depends what you're after. The 59 can be a very sweet pickup, whereas the PG always brings some attitude.

Hey, Harmon - welcome aboard.

I have no opinion as to your pickup choices, but I wanted to compliment you on your Jazzcaster body layout.  I had not ever considered the string-through arrangement you have chosen there, but I think it looks cool.

Thanks for the quick reply, after checking out a few youtube videos of both pickups I think I will be going with the PG.  Maybe a single coil size 59 in my Tele later on.

I had a Yamaha MSG a few years ago with an SD PG in the bridge and an SD '59 in the neck - a great combination [especially versatile with both coil splitting] as you can get the spanky / snappy twangy from the bridge, which can be offset by the flutey / smooth rounded voice of the 59. When you mix them, in various full or split combinations you should should be able to cover most genres.

If you go for a set of PG's or 59's, you'll get grest results, but I'd recommend the combination set as above, based on personal experience.

Thanks for the idea.  That is what I'm going to do for this guitar.

I had both.  I prefer the '59.  The PG can get caught in the midrange a bit.  The '59 has more balls.  I actually have one in my EVH frankenstrat...gives a nice brown sound and singing harmonics.  And the body is a POS plywood.  if it can sound good in this... :icon_thumright:

Have had both and can concur that they do have different character and respond well like any paf style pickups should, although thats completely subjective and depends a lot on your rig and use as well.  I loved the PG on an old Lonestar strat that I had in the 90s.
The only thing that may be constructive is that I found splitting the 59 didn't sound good to me and the PG took it pretty well.  Just my 2 cent.  I ran the gamut of splitting humbuckers until I finally just built a nice strat…..

+1, great combo if you want to retain some vintage vibe with some "oomph".  If you need more hardcore, high gain "oomph" from the bridge, then perhaps the JB would be a good choice, but I'd still stick with the '59 in the neck.

I have all the parts other than the body and ended up going with Pearly Gates for both bridge and neck.  I'll be back in June with a pic of the body out of the box and soon after that the finished guitar.  I'm having a guitar builder I know do the work rather than doing it myself so everything is done right and the Telecaster I have now I will start doing work on myself.
