Selecting 24 fret pickup adjustment

While going through the Warmoth body build options/features I designed (but have not yet bought) a body designed for a 24 fret neck.  From all I can see, there is no change in the location of the neck (mounting screws etc) and all that changes is the neck pickup is brought further away from the neck so that a longer fret board (24) frets "could" fit.

If I select this body feature with the adjusted neck pickup but still use a standard 21 fret neck, will there be any problems?  I'd like to try having the neck pickup just a little lower (as it is with the 24 fret body option) but do not want this build to include a 24 fret neck.

You pretty much got it. As the only thing that changes is the pickup's position- the guitar could still be fitted with 21 fret neck.

The tone of the pickup will be different (much like how the neck and bridge tones are different because of their location), but if it's good enough for the 24 scale, than it can't bad. Just different (probably more trebely).

There might be somethingI'm missing, you should always ask warmoth for another opinion on those things because they can tell you if there are construction problems you might stumble into. But in general- it seems that no harm can happen.

The only other thing you will have is a bit more of a gap between the end of the fingerboard and pickup visually.

I assume this is a rear route, if it's not you also need a pickguard to suit the adjusted position.

Just curious why reposition the pick up ?

Before I was reminded it would lead to a little more treble with the neck pickup.....it was just to avoid the close proximity of the end of the neck and the first pup because I will use pickup rings.  You are right.....it's rear routed...and therefore need to use pup rings.  Just trying to avoid space/area conflict.  Looked like would be a tight fit.....

Ok, I see I think you would have enough space for a pickup ring even with a 22 fret neck. Here's one in the gallery for example.

If you have a 21 fret neck you have even more space. It looks like you are trying to solve a problem that needs no solution.
