My black strat is chambered mahogany but this one is solid and it's pretty dark sounding. I had to change to the JB after first having an EVH Frankenstrat pickup in it, and I also got rid of my Marshall stack and bought a Fender Twin Reverb just because this guitar didn't sound right through a Marshall. It worked out ok since I've always liked Fenders' amps.

Tasty.

I'm considering a similar, warm body bright neck humbucker Strat build.  I'm thinking the neck will still make it bright sounding.  What are your findings so far?

It's bright enough with the fender twin. I had a Marshall JCM 900 and it sounded muddy.  With the right amp and pickup it sounds good. It's become my main shredder guitar. I also really like the blade runner trem.  I played along with the entire VH Fair Warning album on this guitar yesterday and it stayed in tune the whole time. I probably should've gone with the 25 1/2 scale neck for added brightness, but my main guitar used to be a Mustang, so I like the feel of the shorter scale.
