I bought an old 87' Charvel model 5-a (one hum),its nice and theres not a scratch on it but the bridge pup is kind of weak, more for blues then anything which is good but i play more 80s metal and such.So i went to sam ash and had an impulse buy, walked out with a SD blackout. i havnt had the chance to drop it in the charvy yet but im hopeing to do so soon.

Was wondering what every ones thoughts on them are?

Hoping for a good thrash sound :icon_tongue:

I put a set in a mahogany guitar.

I had to turn the gain down.

It sounds real mean.

I finally got around to Putting the blackout in my Charvel M5a.

They dont sound as synthetic to me like Emgs do..

Running through a Marshall Jcm 2000 Dsl 100 On OD2 they fit the 80s thrash bill 100%,every not is articulated and soloing comes through loud and clear.

On OD1 they still have a very heavy sound, i would say metallica depending on were you put the gain, down around 3 it gets good classic rock,up around 7 its metal.

The crunch channel with SDs is actually pretty good with blues and acdc

Clean is great for an active pickup, messing with the volume knob gets a good amount of different sounds.

just thought i would put a follow-up post :).

I had a pair in a schecter that i had a while back.
To my ear they seemed kind of like a dull EMG 85

They had alot of gain and low end but the pick attack was a little lacking.
But if you want a warmer tone than EMG's then your good to go
