Schaller M6 vs Sperzel Trim-Lok.

You always want locking tuners, so if the choice is between those two, get the Sperzel parts. But, Schaller also makes a tuner called a "mini-locker"...

They work the same way the Sperzels do, but the knurled nut on the back used to lock the string in the post is a bit thicker so you can get a better grip on it. Other differences to consider are the Schaller parts have a brilliant finish, while the Sperzels are a satin finish. The Sperzel parts probably weigh a few grams less. The Sperzels have a locating pin for anti-rotation you need to place, while the Schallers use a screw, which is easier to place. They're both premium tuners so you can't go wrong.

Sperzel do actually do a shiny chrome as well, it's just a little harder to come by. I have lots of them.

Speaking of unusual Sperzels, these folks have quite an offering as well.

That maple. Amazing piece.
It's mahogany, and yes it is. (Unless you're referring to my old plain boring maple neck in the background)

That looks like bird's eye maple to me. :dontknow: Strange piece of mahogany.

if it's maple, it's interracial maple. Check the gamma settings on your monitor.

If you want to reduce the weight on the Schaller's, you can get the pearloid looking pegs at Stew Mac, they have ebony ones too.

The Schaller locking tuners are also available in a "brushed" or "satin" finish.  My '98 Strat Plus has them.

FYI, the tab for the locating screw is in a different place on Schaller mini tuners compared to the Schaller mini locking tuners. If you're doing a retrofit be prepared for an extra hole.

Those Schallers are available two ways - with a hidden locating pin or with a visible screw.  The ones you have pictured there are the hidden locating pin style.  They are also available in Nickel, Satin Chrome, Bright Chrome, Black chrome, Gold, Ruthenium, Satin Pearl, and Vintage Copper.  I love the schallers with the hidden locating pin.  Here's all their different options for that style: http://guitar-machine-heads.com/hp14337/M6BCL-P-I-Locking-2020P.htm
