1st post, though been reading in here forever.
Havent built any Warmoths before, but have built tons of other "parts strats" etc.
So, a question and a comment.
Tried out a friend's Yngwie signature strat the other night-and ever since I've been going out my mind for a scalloped neck. That thing got me thinking "what have I been doing NOT using one all these years?"
So, considered taking a file to all-or most-of my necks, but am thinking better to get a warmoth made for it,rather than risk messing up my necks.
Some myths to dispell right off the bat about these,as I thought a lot of the same things before getting to really wring one out:
1) the push sharp thing-aint gonna happen. I have, use and play with, what amounts to a death grip, normally. On the scallop,I initially tried to play like I normally do,couldnt make it happen if I wanted to. What did happen was ,if moving around a lot while playing, it caused notes/chords to slide/bend a bit since it is far easier to do bends on these necks.
2) chords more difficult. nonsense. it's just different is all,and takes a few minutes to get used to using a lighter touch, overall. chording was as normal as ever all the way up and down the full scalloped neck.
Problem #2 though. Much as I love strats (played strat/superstrat types for about 99% of my years playing),since getting an LP type (Mike Kelly Patriot) a few yrs ago, the TONE of that type is now my go-to guitar. But- I love the "feel" of a strat. The scale, etc.
So, since Im not about to try scalloping my #1 MK guitar (especially with the binding/inlays), Im thinking of building an LP type, but with a scalloped neck.
So a couple of questions:
Can these Warmoths be had with strat scale necks for LP type bodies, scalloped? Or do they already come that way?
What about the neck angle? Should I go flat top body with straight neck angle? or Angled neck, carve top?
Wood-wise, Im considering Mahog neck w/ Rosewood board, scalloped
or Wenge/Rosewood scalloped
Solid (no wimpy chambering sillyness) Mahog LP body.
Suggestions?
