Satin finish issue?

Started putting together a satin finish 7/8th strat project today. I put some light duty (purple) masking tape on before drilling pilot holes for straps. Pulled the tape off after drilling and the top layer of satin finish came up with it. Feels like this satin finish is very fragile. Anyone else come across a similar issue?

I used the scotch “delicate surface” painters masking tape I’ve used for years and on multiple builds - however this is the first satin finish project. I have two other satin bodies I haven’t started yet so wanting to prevent this on those.

Got it, the 3M purple is high adhesion commercial tape.

It is not. It is low adhesion.
