Sanding Bridge dowels flush?

Okay, Ive completed the bridge doweling of my two point trem for conversion to six point.
Now, these tow dowels arent quite flush to the body and need sanding. How do you minimize the snading damage to the fuinish surrounding the dowels? How should i do this, and what should I use? Signed- Ever so Gratefull in Texas
 
A sharp chisel should minimize the damage.  Properly sharpened and handled it'll glide over the finished area.  Practice is recommended!

Otherwise just sand the whole area with progressively finer grits, widening the area as you get finer to blend it in.  Then buff it back to a gloss.
 
I just used a orbital sander with 150 sandpaper. After I switched to a block using 180-220 dry. Of course this is null & void if you already have a finish on your guitar. Oh snap..you already have a finish. My bad :icon_biggrin:
