Routing Channel to the Neck Pocket - What's it for???

I just received a body from another vendor (name not to be mentioned) that has a small routed channel from the neck PUP position into the neck pocket (for what appears to be a wire)?  So, as a new builder I am compelled to ask, what's it for?  Does a ground wire run to the neck?  And if so, where do you attach it???

If not a ground wire, what could it be for???

Depends what you mean by "small". Sometimes, relief is cut to give access to the heel adjustment for the truss rod, so you don't have to remove the neck to get at it. Otherwise, I don't know why anyone would do that. There's no reason to ground a neck, and nothing to attach a ground to.

It is not in a position so as to allow access to the truss rod.  It runs at an angle, and is about 1/4 in diameter.

Does it line up with the hole for running the pickup leads through to the control cavity? (Assuming it's not a top routed strat or similar where that wouldn't exist.) Might be that they use a long drill bit run in from the neck pocket to drill that hole.

The posters above are correct.  The hole runs all the way from the neck pocket/neck PUP to the control box.

Now to find out how the hell I am supposed to get a ground wire to the bridge!!!
