Well, finally decided... partly, on second build, now then, all five ideas have these in common:

  • Z Body
  • Swamp Ash
  • Quilt Maple Top
  • HardTail
  • Contoured Heel

Now onto the options/ideas

Number 1:
Dragonburst body with a Purpleheart/Purpleheart neck

Number 2:
Washed Black Dye body with a Purpleheart/Purpleheart neck

Number 3:
Black Dye Body with a Purpleheart/Purpleheart neck

Number 4:
Purple Dye Body with a Padouk/Bloodwood neck

Far as electronics are concerned, i am contemplating this being the 4 string sister to my first build,
and nabbing the vintage powerbucker bridge and vintage jazz neck pickups on sale now while im at it.

However also contemplating having a MM pickup or two in there.

Or Possibly Active soapbars, however this is my least favourite idea.

Far as asthetically is concerned, these are my definate options,

Now if i did this as the 4 string conterpart to my current one, the purpleheart necks would be warmer sounding than the 5 string.
and the padouk/bloodwood would be brighter sounding.

OR (number 5)

i take this lil baby from the showcase, match it with im thinking a Padouk/bloodwood neck or wenge/bloodwood.  :o :o :o

Sorry for it being 5 options, i just cant decide,
And would like some input from you guys as to electronics and such aswell.
Just throw ideas to me,
But i am definate on it being a Z Body with a Warmoth headstock neck, least i have that settled  :laughing7:

I'm not the biggest washed dye nor quilt fan, but I really dig the thought of the (non-washed) black dye/purpleheart neck combo.

ABSOLUTELY NOT! on option number one.  I can't picture Purpleheart working with any sort of green finish.

Also, a no on purple dye with Padouk/Bloodwood.

Is that a figured Bubinga lam top on the showcase body? (I don't see it in the showcase.)
A Padouk/Bloodwood neck is questionable with that body. First off, the shades of red may clash horribly. Second, you need some contrast.

Of the options given, I'm going to go with number three.

Yeah the first option is the maddest one i guess
Hmm i see what you mean about the contrast, well if i go with the showcase if i get it in time, maybe wenge/ebony or something like that?

Too many different colors on all the options :o

Really? i can see the dragonburst one is a bit much now thinking about it,
maybe the purple dye one too
but the other three think would be pretty mellowed out compared to the other two,
I am favouring one of the black dye versions or the showcase body with wenge/bloodwood, which would be same neck as its 5 string compadre has

Ok I was sleepy, so I'll say my opnions on each...

You said about this one...

Number 2:
Washed Black Dye body with a Purpleheart/Purpleheart neck
This one may be good, I guess.

Number 3:
Black Dye Body with a Purpleheart/Purpleheart neck
This one too

Number 4:
Purple Dye Body with a Padouk/Bloodwood neck
I'd get all Padouk or all Bloodwood as they would oxidize differently... May be ok

OR (number 5)

Padouk/bloodwood neck or wenge/bloodwood
I think Wenge headstock would be very ugly on a red body and fingerboard... but this is me... If Wenge is for the tone, matching headstock with body or fingerboard...
Again the all Padouk or all Bloodwood on the 1st option...

No way! Wenge would be incredible with that lam top!

All wenge neck or wenge + ebony, yes... Wenge + Bloodwood is something that I don't think would work to me

Wenge/Bloodwood is cool on it's own, but you can't put it on a body with red on it. The colors would clash, and there is no contrast.

A Wenge/Ebony neck would be awesome on that body.

Exactly

True, didnt think about the oxidization , thanks for reminding me.

Yeah think i wont go with the first one, maybe bit too vivid even for me,

Maybe with the black dye ideas, stead of a full purpleheart neck, maybe Purpleheart/Ebony, or Wenge/Purpleheart?

And with the purple one, the online builder doesnt give the option for all padouk or all bloodwood neck, of course if i go with that i would email to ask,
But would wenge/ebony be good for that? or possibly padouk/ebony instead?
though the padouk/ebony would be blackish brown/purple and red all rolled into one,
mind you thats what my five string is just a darker purple when indoors, and it works. but thats wenge neck with bloodwood fingerboard.

Love this place, you've already abolished one idea which i can see the sense of and giving me better ideas for the others  :toothy10:

Number 5, but NOT bloodwood, that would look AWFUL on that body.  Like they said above, Ebony

Hehe yeah, while it would be very vivid the purpleheart and dragonburst combo does have a special place, and will eventually be done, maybe not now but at some point.
I mean im likely to need a third warmoth right?  :evil4:

Well I just don't like quilted maple, so this was an easy choice for me. I even think bloodwood could work, but macassar ebony would be really cool to. Wenge or bubinga neck back.
