Replace Fender American Standard tremolo with Gotoh 510 tremolo.

This topic has probably been covered but I will ask again.

Checking the body rout, I noticed the stud posts are of the same distance for both but the hole for the tremolo block is bigger for the 510 trem.

Will the replacement work if I put a Gotoh 510 trem into a body routed for an American Standard trem ?

No.
As you say the hole for the block needs to be widened slightly.

The studs of the Gotoh are a different dimension. And a two post American standard rout would need adjusting with a file or similar to accomodate the Gotoh's arm bushing. That is the difference.

So it is a doable mod rather than a complete no. YMMV, caveat emptor and the usual small print applies.

If it is a Warmoth body you could ask them to do it for you. Before the 510 trem rout was offered as a standard it was a $45 option. The quilted purple to clear burst strat linked in my signature was done exactly that way.
