Red on Red on Red on....

Reverb is a dangerous place :D

I picked up a Mighty Mite Strat body in a gorgeous metallic crimson (allegedly swamp ash). My original idea was to do a '50s Corvette-inspired design, in honor of the car that my late father-in-law had (he didn't own it for long; he crashed it while he was still in his 20s). But after doing a photo manipulation mock-up, it wasn't nearly as awesome-looking as what was in my head.

I changed directions and got inspired by "Masque of the Red Death." Somewhat apropos to these current times (in many ways), as well as my wife being a mega-fan of Edgar Allan Poe.

My thought was to go totally red.  Red mirrored pick guard, red pickups, and for the Warmoth contribution, a padouk neck with bloodwood fretboard (unless they can make a one-piece padouk or bloodwood....), the black skull-n-crossbones inlay, and black hardware (trem, knobs, etc.).

I've been able to find photos of red Strats with red pearloid pickguards but white pickups & knobs + chrome hardware.  But nothing yet in a full red dressing.

R/b/r pickguard might be cool there while still carrying the all red theme

Ooooh, THAT'S an interesting idea....!

Which leads to another interesting idea spawning from that......

Your idea is interesting. I'm going to follow along to see the choices you make along the way. That body is a nice color to start with.

You could go HSH and get some pickups from DiMarzio with red and cream bobbins for the humbuckers and red for the single coil.

That'd be a neat look.  I do have red HSH Dimarzios in my 7-string (a pair of Titan humbuckers and a single Blaze in the middle).  The bridge and middle combined make a nice, fat, chugga-chugga tone :)

Playing around with photo manipulation, I stumbled on a Bob Ross-level happy accident.  I grabbed an image of the Arrow headstock off of Warmoth's showcase, and after playing around with a couple of cut/shaping/trim ideas, I was about to give up when my eyes fell on the ellipse tool in my photo editing application.  What the heck.  I tried it out, and ended up with something I hadn't considered in all of my digital shaping trials.

Then I discovered that Warmoth offers a bloodwood-on-bloodwood option for the Arrow.  And since I'm considering a custom set of red & black tuners from Sperzel, this thing could get bloody.

Serendipity, baby!  I saved the file as "accidental arrow.png"

Here is a bit of tangential trivia for the Edgar Allan Poe mega-fan:

You may recall that in Lewis Carol's classic Alice and Wonderland, the Mad Hatter poses a riddle that is never answered: "Why is a raven like a writing desk?"

Years ago the Lewis Carol Society held a contest in which members were asked to submit their most clever answers. The winner: "Because Poe wrote upon both of them."
