Has anyone recorded with a guitar with the Wilkinson VS100 trem? I know that some people block or even use tape on Floyds when they record rhythm to keep it quiet. Is it easy to bend the bridge down when palm-muting heavily?

Mine all float, too, and I've never had any issue with moving the thing while palm muting. In fact, it's nearly impossible since in order to palm mute, you have to have your palm above or forward of the bridge pivot posts because they're in line with where the strings leave the saddles.

As far as making noise goes, I've never heard a Wilkie do that. There just aren't that many parts, and they're all well-secured. You might hear the springs vibrate in sympathy, but that's true of any vibrato bridge. You can mitigate that with surgical tubing inside the springs, or foam packed under them.

I think blocking it would have more to do with tuning than noise, because blocking won't mute the springs. It's two different issues... I only have one guitar with a whammy though, and I always though part of the charm of them is the sproingy-ness of the way they feel unblocked. As Cagey said, a piece of foam... though you don't have to pack it tight, just thread it over and under the springs.
