my first "real" guitar was a Fender contemporary strat, and ever since I feel it is the best "off the rack" strat that fender ever made.
that is probably why my main fetishes are for japanese guitars, especially mid 80s contemporary fenders and late 80s/early 90s fender hearfields.

I recently found another contemporary strat that needed some minor restoring.. luckily I had a correct fender (schaller made) system I trem lying around:

this guitar gives a new meaning to "Tobacco Burst".... there is a huge layer of nicotine on this thing! :)

Still needs new that pickup ring removed, but that can wait.. it looks, sounds and plays amazing as it is!

Very cool score!  Man, I cannot believe how grungy that thing was, but it looks great now  :headbang1:

My first real guitar was also a Fender Jap Strat.  About an 84' model...
I can't say I am a big fan of that Fender trem 1 system.
I long ago replaced the pups with a set of Texas specials.  I recently put a Warmoth neck on it and blocked the trem.
I like it much, much better now.

Thanks! :)
I actually love the System I trems.. if you still have it, I will buy it off you actually ;)
I went the other way around, I replaced the body of my first MIJ Strat with a Warmoth.. it has a gotoh FR now..

I remember when those came out and I always liked the black neck and headstock!  Well done!!!  :hello2:

Sweet! I love doing restorations, but nicotine removal is probably the best anti-smoking message you can have.

Congrats on the find!

Great job on the restoration. What is the little compartment on the back for?

The little compartment on the back is for access to the output jack on the side.  Notice it is not like a normal Stratocaster output jack.  My Ibanez RG1550M has the same thing.  I wonder if it was a Fujigen Gakki technique that has continued with Hoshino Gakki...

I always thought the contemporary's were made by Fujigen.. my fender talons have the same compartment and they are definitely made by Fujigen.
