Reburnishing?

So I just did a roasted maple neck on a jazz bass.  When I first started playing with it, it was smooth.  Slick.  Shiny.  After playing with it for a while it's dulled.  It doesn't feel sticky, just less smooth.  Would that be my fault for not continuing to burnish the neck after I thought it was done?  Or is this a common thing that I will need to reburnish the neck to bring back the smoothness and shine periodically?

I do that on occasion and with no problems. I wipe the neck down with Naphtha to clean any grime that is on it and then polish it back up.

I had one customer express concern because he sweats a tone at gigs and his neck was furring up so I sent him some 2000 grit paper and I never heard a peep out of him since.

Same thing with my Canary/Ebony. Once a year or so I use some 2000/1500 grit paper to clean it up. No problems at all after that.

Good to know, fellas.  I thought I did something wrong.  It's only been a couple months.

you may just want to clean it 1st.  Naptha works.  I use a orange oil and rub it in with a microfiber cloth  Really cleans and conditions the wood.

You have to use some elbow grease to get it all off so it is not oily but it work well.
