Reb Beach Style Body

Thinking of putting together a Reb Beach Suhr copy. Not sure whether to go for the strat or soloist body. The Suhr body seems to be somewhere in between. I like the soloist playability but the shape seems a little too sharp for me. The Suhr shape looks like it sits nicely in between the strat and soloist shape. The horns seem a bit thicker and less 'shred'.

Any thoughts? Advice?

Welcome to the forum and I think your observations on the shapes are about right.

Are you trying to make a copy or an inspired by ?

If its an inspired by either pick a Strat or Soloist shape whichever you prefer and marry it up with a Warhead neck shape. It should get you close.

If you are trying to make a replica copy, you could start with a Warmoth body that has only been routed for the neck pocket and pickups etc and cut the shape yourself.

A solid Koa body will be possibly difficult to get and cost a fair bit, a good alternative would be a Koa Laminate on Mahogany.

Anyway in the meantime I found the link to a very good looking instrument put together by a fellow forumite, Doughboy.

Thanks stratmania...I have seen doughboy's axe and it is a fine specimen indeed.

Not sure which way I'll go yet.

Is the warhead meant to imitate the suhr head stock?

I think the Warhead is its own shape, but its closer to the  shape on the Reb Beach than the Fender one.

Take the strat-shape. Rip out your jigsaw and make a Voyager:

Strat Shape won't do it. That's an Ibanez body. You can get used ones cheap all day long.

And it's not even an RG body, the cutaways are unique to the RB design.
Like SA said, find one on the bay for lunch money.

Actually, an authentic Koa Ibanez Reb Beach model is quite expensive, due to it's rarity.

There's a black modified one on ebay for $600, but I'd just build one from Warmoth parts for 1/3 the price of a Suhr.

I know it's not a strat-shape.

But that is what Warmoth has that comes nearest.

Good luck on finding a Koa-body for cheap ...
