"rear rout cavity" and pots/selector position

Hello everyone! :)

I'm about to start a new 7/8-S project!

I'm used to playing this size with a pickguard, and the two pots + selector whose positions are dictated by the pickguard layout (right where my fingers expect them).

But this time, I'd like to try the "rear rout" option, and I wanted to know if the location of the rear control cavity would allow me to place my pots and selector in the same spots I'm used to having them under my fingers when they're mounted on a pickguard.

I hope my question makes sense!

In the meantime, here are two photos of my previous 7/8-S builds:

Thanks in advance for any insights or experiences!

They are probably not that much different for the rear rout. Check with Warmoth Sales.

Thanks for your reply! I contacted Warmoth about this, and they redirected me to this forum—that's actually how I ended up here!

As for the photos of my previous builds, they're just there to show exactly where the pots and selector sit when mounted on a pickguard. That way, anyone who's already gone with the "rear rout" option can more easily tell me if the cavity placement would work for the same finger positions I'm used to.

Thanks again, and have a great day (night?)!

They arent even close unfortunately :(

This build has the default rear route positions. The cavity doesnt extend far enough up to move the blade into the same position as the pickguard.

First off gorgeous guitar

Second of all, wouldn’t you be an ideal person to contact for a rear rout routing template? You could even make a little fence that follows the profile of the guitar to ensure it’s indexed perfect to translate to top rout proportions ;)

On my guitar (the top one), the position of the pots and selector is dictated by the pickguard.

But on the guitar below (the one with the "rear rout"), the placement of the pots and selector is much more flexible, since it's not dictated by the pickguard — it's only limited by the size and position of the rear control cavity.

My question is: is the rear cavity positioned in a way that would allow me to place the pots and selector in the exact same spots as if they were mounted on a pickguard?

Ideally, it would be great to have the template of this rear cavity so I can measure its size and exact location.rear rout.jpg

In the build thread he posted, @supertruper1988 also showed a picture of the rear rout cavity.

I agree with him, also after looking in the cavity of my 7/8 S, that there's not enough room to put the switch in the same position as on the pickguard.

is the guitar pre-drilled for pots and selector with "rear rout" cavity option ? or are you free to chose their position ?

You can order it without any holes and drill them yourself, although the position for the switch is pre-routed (recessed) anyway.

Also you are of course limited by the shape and position of the cavity which is about were I marked in red here:
