Hello everyone,

I'm planning ot purchase a Warmoth Custom Vintage Strat Neck very soon,
I'd like to get the Glossy Vintage Tint finish. Which I understand is a Poly
Uratheane finish.

I also plan to apply a Waterslide Headstock Decal to it.

My question is what do I use for the clear mist coat over the decal on a neck
that has the Poly Uratheane finish on it?

Can I clear coat with glossy Poly U from a spray can?

Or, should I use Nitro from a spray can?

Has anyone here applied a waterslide decal to a Poly U neck?

Thanks,

=Rawd=

IT will stick with nothing over it.

WIth poly you have to scuff before respraying.  I am not 100% what Warmoth uses.  I will let the other chime in here.  I would not use nitro.

As long as the surface is clean, flat and glossy, you should have no problems with the decal on the poly. Here's a couple great tips for waterslide decal application; 1-Always trim your decal as close to the printed portion as possible using a small scissors, rather than a knife blade like an X-acto. Using a scissors pushed down on the decal edge, rather than lifting it up. 2-As your decal is in the water separating from the decal paper, wet the area to receive the decal with white vinegar. Then slide your decal onto the vinegar puddle. This will allow you to position the decal before it grabs the surface. Then gently blot with a paper towel or Q-tip swab, working out any bubbles that may have gotten trapped underneath the decal.

The question if your decal will work under spray poly can be answered by taking some of the decal you trimmed away, apply that to something smooth. When dry, spray with your poly spray finish and see if there's an adverse reaction between the decal and the spray. This might just save you some aggravation on the final project. You might want to save some of the trim away decal for other experiments with other clear finishes. You never know what the decal maker used as a top coat, so I advise experimentation before you attempt to clear over your finished project.

Good luck and let us know how it turned out!

Warmoth makes great necks and bodies and is my go to place for most items....but every time I see their "vintage tint" ....personally I don't like it...way too yellow for me. I have a Warmoth neck I bought used with the Vintage tint and I stripped it.
