Both I think but fretboard most often.  Even when it's fretless, oddly...  :icon_scratch:

Fingerboard:  Does a Fretless bass or an upright have frets?

I just think it covers everything by using "Fingerboard".  "Fretboard" implys a fretted instrument only.

Just my .02.

Upright basses and violins don't have frets,  but sometimes tape where they would be.

Tape is bush-league.

Seriously, when I learned to play cello and violin back in grade school, we used little colorful dot stickers to mark the spaces, not tape.  :)

Are you guys serious? The two terms are not interchangeable...
I say fretboard when referring to a fretted instrument, and fingerboard when referring to a fretless instrument.

Eh, who cares anyway?  Incidentally warmoth.com uses both but favors "fingerboard."

To tell the truth, not me.  I always say fretboard, but I so very rarely find myself talking about violins, cellos, or fretless basses.

dbw thats really cool. Thats like Lexicon on the facebook, it counts how many words are said on people's walls, and you compare two words.
