Questions about the "z" body shape...

I noticed that the "Radiant Z" was the only guitar of this shape posted in the "misc" thread. I am curious about this shape, and would like to know more about it.

Where did it originate (obvious strat from Fender, and LP from Gibson, and VIP from PRS)? Is the Hetfield/Lawrence (sinister) headstock its matching counterpart?

* Is it possible to do a carved top/semi-hollow w/"f" hole version?
Is it comfortable playing sitting down?

I always wondered why the JagStang looked like it was missing something in the hump (forearm contour) and "z" fills that curve. But I am also wondering if that "knife-edge" of a hip bone shaped tummy contour could not be rounded out a bit more like a Les Paul body shape (THE curviest/shapely body IMHO).
Could the lower horn not also be extended slightly, like the shape of a Mockingbird's lower horn to balance the upper horn, which is very cool/sexy/dangerous.

Is the "Z" a B.C. Rich creation?
I think this shape has potential and could be "improved"
I am also thinking Dual Phat Cats w/Piezo Stop Tailpiece.

Thanks in a advance.

It is very comfy sitting down. It is more comfy resting on the left leg with the neck tilted upward a bit more than say a strat type guitar. One of the best feeling guitars standing up I have ever used. Great shape. I love my Radiant Z

It certainly is growing on me, knife-edge "hip bone" and stubby lower horn and all.  :evil4:

I think it would look good with a Explorer headstock. or the best of all would be a revers arrow headstock but with the arrow drastically trimmed

sorta like thisssss.....???

If I could go back and change things about my radiant Z. I would for sure go this rout with the headstock as well as add a black Floyd Rose trem.

Badass!
I am seeing it now. Originally I was interested in the JagStang, but not enough "zgrabna" (shapely/roundness) in the hump!  :cool01:

I would also see your reverse headstock and maybe raise you a "Hetfield/Lawrence" headstock (one of the GOTM winners had it...deadly, sexy) and maybe one of those slanted fretboards that look like they are from the future.

My lonely Explorer neck (wow!) Is looking for a match...get this... :evil4:
Gonçalo Top (two shade light Tan/CoffeeBrown with large "cloud/warhorse "hand" warpaint/camouflage" grain pattern
Canary Core
Satin Nitro Dusting (I know raw must be awesome, and some day when I am raking in the dough, I'll get one but for now, peace of mind and sweat resistant dusting)
2 "F" Holes
Carved Top
Hollowbody
Piezo Stop Tailpiece Pickup only (no knobs, no switches, volume controlled with footpedal)
Standard jack
Contoured Heel/all available contours
"Z" Body Shape

What would be f-in killer is to be able to change strings from Steel to Nylon and back again depending on function/music. If not,  will have to make a hard decision, cause I do like to bend..althoutg not as much as Mr. Jerry Donahue, Holy Crap!

Thanks for your help Slasher. I don't know if you are the real Slash or a superfan not unlike myself, but as many here have said before, there's no such thing as to many guitars.

These pictures (cards of a game I like to play) come to mind as my beauty reveals herself (I could live without the blue/gold color combo, the larger teeth from the bonesaw is how I always envisioned the sawtooth lute (I mean loon) not those spindly little toothpics on the side of its beak, and when all is said and done...really...the card "Darksteel Axe" sums it all up!) I threw in the Serrated Arrows for a touch of Native American Indian.

P.S. And if you are the real Slash, R N' F'N Roll kicked ass! And maybe next time get Kiedis, Blacker, Patton, Plant, Szczepanik, Vedder, Ke$ha, & Perry on R N'F'N Roll II!

Hahaha sadly I am not the real Slash. I am a fan of GnR and Slash as a player. I for sure have guitarist im a bigger fan of but Slash/lespaul/tophat is the reason I wanted to start playing guitar when I was 15. I am now 23....have over 20 guitars...and dont see myself ever stopping haha. its an addiction....NEVER too many guitars. haha

Oh and Warmoth doesnt offer some of the option on some of the body shapes. with the Z body you cant get it Hollow, carved top,  or f-holes. it still rocks tho.

+1 I'll say .... thats one lovely looking guitar  :icon_thumright:
Looks like it's got a GK-3 on it as well  :blob7:
Love the inlays & the angled neck end. Great looking beast  :guitarplayer2:

That guitar is dead sexy.  Now I have to add a Z-body guitar to my build wish list.  I guess the kids don't have to go to college...or eat...we could live in the van...down by the river :)

If there's a river, there's probably a bridge. Park under it nearer to the entrance or exit side of the thing. Less exposure to the elements. Wouldn't want to get your new guitar wet. Plus, it's cooler during the day. And if anybody comes calling, stab them right away, repeatedly and violently. It'll serve as an example to the rest of the OWS crowd <grin>
