Question concerning brazillian rosewood

Hi guys, I sent an email to warmoth and it was suggested i try here since they didn't know (I apologise if this is the wrong forum I couldn't figure out if the neck/body wood forums were a better fit or not, if this is not the right one could a mod kindly move it to the correct forum).

My question is this, I live in Australia for half of the year and the US for the other half and I wanted to get a guitar made with a brazillian rosewood fretboard, I know by law that warmoth cannot send guitars overseas that have brazillian rosewood in them however I would like to know that if I ordered a guitar with a BR fretboard (and have it shipped to me while i was in the states , would I be be able to take it back and forth between countries without any problems or would that cause problems, or would customs not allow me to take the guitar with me.

Anyone wish to chime in and help with this?

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

I'm not sure but I'd seriously doubt that they'd want to know the exact wood composition of your guitar fretboard. It's a different thing to be selling it, but I think once you own it, no one is going to know what it is.

Thanks for replying, that's what I was thinking but I don't want to risk paying for the wood/guitar and then risk losing it the second I had to go back to australia/back into america.

I don't think there's any way a customs agent can tell a BR from and IR fretboard when inspecting your luggage, which is the relevant point, right? Certainly the wood type isn't written on the neck anywhere. If you're paranoid, attach it to a real guitar (and don't fill it with cocaine!) and I imagine you'll be fine.

Just a guess, but I would think that businesses are barred from exporting Brazilian Rosewood.  I would not think that you would be barred from taking your own possessions with you wherever you choose so long as they are not illegal to have period.

Well, if the agent aske to see the receipt he will understand, as it probably will be writen: brazillian rosewood and he won't let you carry it and perhaps even get a sue or get arrest by crime against the environment (well, I'm not really sure that it HAS in the USA, but here in brazil people always say: you get less time in jail killing a cop than killing an protected animal...)

Kick the ball easy, get malagasy rosewood, that Warmoth says have a sound alike Brazillian or Ziricote that has a nice figuring and  sound between rosewood and ebony, everybody here that have tried like it very much...

Brazilian Rosewood (Dalbergia nigra) is listed under Appendix I of CITES.  This means it has the maximum restrictions under international endangered species law.  You will need a permit to carry or ship it across any international border, even if its for personal and private use only.

You may be able to fool them into thinking its something else, but unfortunately this is the "Letter of the Law" answer.

Actually, my second choice was ziricote since I love the spider web like figuring on there, so I guess im probally gonna go for that or see if warmoth has a 4-5 birdseye neck.

Also, thank you blue313, I guess this means i'm going with ziricote
