Question about 3-way toggle and mini toggle

Two-part question:

Can you get a DPDT toggle switch that is the same size as a Les Paul 3-way pickup toggle ... in other words not a 'mini' toggle switch?

If so, would it fit in a hole drilled for a standard LP tone pot?

I'm thinking about replacing the neck tone control on a LP with a DPDT to do coil swapping and making the bridge tone a master tone control. Would end up looking like a Gibson BFG.

You can get plastic knobbed LP looking DPDT switches.  However, most pot holes are 5/16" and the LP toggle is 1/2".  Yes they make them.  No they don't fit in pots' holes.

Thanks Super ... or do you prefer Custom for short?  :laughing7:

Ok, so the LP sized DPDT wont work unless I drill out the hole (which I'd rather not do).

Given that a mini toggle is 1/4" is there an easy way to make it a snug fit in a 5/16" pot hole?

Are you looking for a center-on DPDT, or an On-On-On? (A.K.A. SP3T)
A few places sell DPDT On-On-On Gibson style toggles, but I was looking for a center-on switch myself a few days ago, and couldn't find anyone that made such a thing.

If you want a center-on, you will have to use a heavy duty toggle switch, and those usually pop a lot when switching. The pops can be lessened by placing a very high resistance load across the switch terminals. The resistors will dissipate the pop as thermal energy.

That's generally close enough.  It's only 1/16' difference, so when centered there's on 1/32" on each side and they do have washers.

 kinda realised that AFTER I posted ... it's easy to confuse an Aussie with all this talk of inches.

@line6man. Nah dude I'm using an On-On switch to do coil swapping. By flippin' this switch the 3-way goes from Neck/Bridge to Inner/Outer (coils). Gonna combine that with two push/pulls to do series/parallel for the coils of each pickup—pull the pot and the pickup goes from N/S in series to N/S in parallel. See the design here: http://guitarnuts2.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=wiring&thread=5692&post=54154

Originally I was gonna use three push/pulls but I'd like to use two Stellartone Tonestylers on the tone pots which means no push/pull. Got the Tonestyler on my new strat and it's great!  :icon_thumright:

Looking to combine all this with Bill Lawrence L-90s or L-500s, both of which sound great with coils in parallel (or so I've been told).

You guys know how it is ... I finished my first Warmoth less than two weeks ago and I'm already planning the next one!  :laughing7:
