protecting raw necks

hey all. idea occurred to me a week, or two, ago...with this whole raw neck deal I did on my bass, how do I protect it from getting any kind of gunk in it or drying out over time. for some reason, I thought it was just a set it and forget it kind of thing without maintenance, but I realized that with the wood having pores, and all, it will absorb my sweat and oil on my fingers and eventually build up gunk, or something, on the neck and fingerboard. so, I'm looking to protect the neck from any sort of damage and keep it looking clean and new for as long as possible. any recommendations? the neck is raw canary, btw.

I've always used bore oil. Cheap, and it will last forever.

I put the bore oil on the neck, and rub 'er down with 0000.

If that doesn't keep things slick and tasty, I don't know what will.

Oh yea, don't use it on maple.
