Pots and switches

So I am building a jazz master with two humbuckers.  I am doing a simple set up...

1 volume
1 tone
5 way switch

Seeing as how this is my first build I don't know what type of pots (brand, 500k, 250k) what type of 5 way switch?  any suggestions?

What's the plan for the 5-way?  What are you trying to make happen?


The readily available and reasonable quality parts are CTS pots, or Bourne if you want to go a little higher, and OAK switches.

and what would those options be?  are you thinking of some kind of phase thing?  serial / parallel?  coil tap? Not everything can be done with a typical 5 way switch.  Which of these did you want to achieve?

If you're going to split & phase-switch & such with a 5 way, you will probably need a Super 5 way.
If you're jazzmaster has a Tele type control cavity, you will probably need a narrow Super 5 way.

I used this one in my current Tele to get 3 pickups with middle & bridge in both series & parallel.

I got mine here. It is probably available elsewhere, but it is not the same as the Super 5 sold by Stew-Mac.

So I did some more research and I think I am just going to do a 3 way toggle with a coil tap.
