Post build blues

Anyone here get post build blues?  Now that my guitar is done all I see are small flaws and things that I could have done better.  It really makes me want to build another one just to see how much better it turns out.  Unfortunately for me, unless it starts raining waffles from the sky, I won't be able to do another build anytime soon.

Yea. A little with my last one but nothing major.
I'll build more just to get the new ideas specific tone and functionality that I have in mind ... not to try to top the last build.
I'm looking to fill gaps in the arsenal.

My first was a hard tail strat. mahogany maple / ebony.
The second has slightly different wood choices and a wang bar. black korina body  padouk / bloodwood neck.

The third ... ( ready to order ) will be strung with nylon. Chambered alder ( maple top ) padouk / ebony.

The 4th will be a mahogany bodied super strat with hbuckers and maybe a wenge / ebony neck. Might be a hard tail might have a bar. Not sure yet.

I haven't even built one yet, and I already know there will be a lot of blues going on after its done (in more ways than one)  :occasion14:

Only in that my other guitars aren't quite as nice as they used to be.  Hence some of them are getting sold in order to build another Warmoth.

There will always be hindsight, I could/woulda/shoulda done something different...

i did with my first and second builds, but much less with the second. the first i was thinking "was i too eager with this build? should i have planned out all the parts more carefully?" turned out great, but it was definitely NOT what i had envisioned when i made my order. mainly because i had to change the body due to a money issue. that along with the fact that it was the first i had put together and was really more of a really expensive practice run than anything else.

i love the second. to be honest the only things i regret about the second would be a crooked jack plate (can still barely believe i didn't notice while i was installing it), the neck that might be too thin for me, and the fact that unfortunately i was the one to wire the thing up. when i open it up this time it'll be the 3rd time i'll have to go back in to fix simple wiring. really annoying.

I always get the post build blues. Not because I'm disappointed with anything, just because I really enjoy the act of building them. You spend so much time planning every detail, order the parts, sit in anticipation as everything trickles in, then it all goes together so fast that I immediately find myself jonesing to build another. The parts for number 5 are coming in as we speak...

I don't know if I'd call it "blues", but there's a certain amount of indifference that sets in. The thrill of the hunt where you research and spec the thing out, the anxiety and suspense of waiting for parts, the joy of receipt, the work involved with building and setup, then the satisfaction of playing it are all great. Then, it's like "what have you done for me lately?" So, you do what any dopamine addict does: repeat the experience <grin>

It almost makes me feel bad. I want something so bad, then I get it, am excited about it for a little bit, then want something else.

The pursuit of perfection keeps me going and going and going.  I will say that the things that bother me prior to final set up tend to dissipate after the guitar is assembled and gets used and banged up, but I’m still looking to make the perfect guitar.

me too :sad1: thank god warmoth started this online support group / encouragement forum

I got way too excited last time I built a guitar.  I need to try and savor the experience more next time.  Take my time and drag it out a little.  I was like a starving man at a buffet.

I wish I had gone against my Luthier's advice and gotten stainless steel frets, and larger than 6150. Other than that I love my Warmoth Strat.

You can always buy another neck. SS 6100s are the whip! Then, you'd have a leftover neck, which would force you to buy another body and some hardware to build a backup guitar. You can never be too rich, too thin, or have too many guitars <grin>

I've thought about it, but I really dig my strat, it's just not PERFECT. If I ordered another neck I'd probably order something completely different than this neck, and that might not be perfect either.

...And if you can't be with the one you love, honey - love the one you're with.

I want a wang bar, but getting that too close to bloodwood can get messy.  :icon_jokercolor:

My problem is, that my concept of perfection is like a moving target.    :laughing7:

Someday, probally when I'm older and wiser I will build a guitar and that first time I sit down with it to play I will just know...BAM this is the one.

Till that day though! :laughing7:

I don't get post build blues.  I really like all of the W's I've built. No they are not all perfect - but so what.

They all do their jobs (nice instruments that look great) very well.

I got the "blues" after I finished my strat. Not because I wish I would have done things differently, couldn't be happier, but because I miss the building process. I think a lot of us enjoy the whole building process as much as we do the final product. I'm already working on my next build.....it's an addiction :icon_biggrin:
