With trim ring

Hmm... tough call. Normally, I'd say use a trim ring lest the thing look unfinished or half-assed, but in this case it seems to unbalance the face a bit. I guess I'd still use it, and just get used to the look.

Does it need a surround of some sort? Not particularly.

Does THAT ring do anything for it? Yes - it brings an angular motif out in a Bigsby/Jetsons kinda way, plays off the bridge chrome, all kinds of goodness. I've not been crazy about those rings when I've seen them before, but seeing it in this guitar, it works, and i can kinda see why.

The voting so far goes kind of what I have been thinking.  It looks sort of goofy with the gap in the pickup route.  The pickup ring is almost too much chrome.  Maybe I'll buy a black one and see how that looks... or can somebody do a photoshop to the picture above and turn the chrome ring black?

I second the "jetsons" comment below, but perhaps if you're worried about it looking overly bling-y, you could track down a pickup ring cut out of padouk?

Maybe I'll try to make one out of Padauk.  Just need to find some 1/8" thick Padauk.

I'd say no to the chrome ring, but yes to trying either a black one or one made from some nice wood.

I say yes to the Chrome ring but take the cover off of the pickup. That would be sexy.

Mmmm... Topless pickups...

Good call. Best suggestion yet.

I think I like the idea of chrome ring sans cover too. No that's not EMG's , just some level shifting - so I didn't bother to draw in pole pieces.
