I am building my first guitar, and I have a question for those who might have run across this issue.
the vintage neck is .75"of maple and .25"of fret-board, making a 1"thick neck
at the heel. When they route a neck pocket .625"deep, it makes a .125" gap
from the top of the body to the bottom of the 22nd fret overhang.
This allows for a .120" thick pick-guard with a hair to spare.
I have a vintage modern neck, and this is .79" of maple with .21"of fret-board
to have the same gap I will have to route the neck pocket an extra .04'' deeper. I don't want a huge gap between the fret overhang and the PG.
Have any of you specified to route the neck pocket to .665" instead of the standard 5/8"'?
Thanks
