Play it raw?

I just got a rosewood with ebony fretboard neck.
It comes with no finish required, but I'm worried it will pretzel without one? Why don't they offer finishes on some necks? What would happen if I put one on?

Any pro neck has a double truss rod first of all, my guess is that it would take a truck running over it to 'pretzel'. There are some other companies using no-finish necks, it's not just warmoth, if it makes you feel better. A lot of the higher end PRS guitars come with all-rosewood unfinished necks too. It's not an issue.

You'd probably have to throw it into the swimming pool over the winter to get it to "pretzel".

If it's a Warmoth Pro, it will take a long time to ever need to do another adjustment after doing your initial setup. I have one that's straight as an arrow after 3 years.

If it's a Warmoth Vintage neck with vintage truss rod, you may need to adjust it every year or so/seasonally depending on conditions in which the guitar is stored/played, about like you'd need to with a stock Fender neck.

In either event, no need to finish it at all, plays mo' better RAW!

Also, they don't offer finishes on some necks due to the nature of those woods.  Some of them repel almost anything, including certain finishes.

okay I'll play it raw and resist the temptation to put finish on it. I just ordered it so it'll be a couple of weeks before she slides onto my doorstep.

On the warmoth site they say they dip all the necks in something (I cant remember exactly what) Is that true for the raw necks too?

Nope.  The raw necks have no treatment whatsoever.

I have a Wenge neck, and a maple satin finished one.

The raw wenge neck feels good but I have nothing to complain about the maple one with satin finish. They're both feels better than gloss finished neck.

+1 nothing wrong with a slick satin finish, but raw wood is pure sex.
