I want to have a pickup in the middleposition of a les paul. I want it to have a big bunch of output, but it should SCREAAAM. punch, tight, crunch, scream, bright. something like that. oh and singlecoil! what pickup is the best for me?

oh, and it should be a singlecoil! I've tried the prails, but they're too warm and fuzzy (good for other stuff though).

What's in your rig, Orpheo?

Brian

a jcm800 and upcoming a mesa mark4. (actually, its a miniature custommade version of a jcm800, but it sounds the same, haha)

I'm thinking of something else; a telecaster pickup, but with a humbucker cover so it looks 'normal'' .

I want to do a 3 humbucker les paul with a humbucker in the neck and bridge and a humbucker sized p90 in the middle.  how are you doing your pickup switching?

Several options, I will list some.

#1 master volume, master tone, single/series switch. when in series; I have the normal 3way toggle on the upper bout. when single, I have the signal routed to 5wayblade, with the p90 in the middle position.

#2 1 volume for each position. mastertone. regular 3way for bridge/neck+bridge/neck, and another minitoggle for either the signal from the regular output, the p90, or both.

#3 same as above, but with mastertone and master volume.

#4 the toggle/slidswitch can be mounted in the pickguard, or even cleaner-looking; in a pickupring.

#5 1 volume for each pickup, master tone, regular 3 way for the humbuckers. pushpull to choose either the humbuckers or the p90, pushpull to engage the p90 in whatever the other switches are.

My favorite is the version #2, but #`1 works GREAT, but you need a big rout for that in your les paul, to fit the 5way blade (or a 5way rotationknob, just like PRS). you do need a 3pole 2way switch for #1 though.

What I would like to do, is #1 with mastervolume, mastertone, and a pushpull to engage the p90 anytime, and for the other pothole the volume/blend for piezo, eventhough I dont use it, but this is the most versatile you can get without screwing up the looks :)

Hey Orpheo

Have you thought about using something in-between your guitar and amp that could do things like amplify a weak pickup? That way you could use a brighter sounding underwound pickup that could have the sound that you want but also over-drive your amp the way you want it. I use a line6 pod xt and get a fantastic heavey sound out of whatever guitar I am using.

You might also want to check out SD stag-mags if you want single coils in a humbucker package if you dont want to hobble your own together as you have on your other pauls.

about the last line: those picups are already gone and awayyyy :D I have motherbuckers in them, and I Love them to death! up until now the best pickup I've ever used.

a stompbox? I've thought about it (how should I say this without flaming too much  :icon_jokercolor: )  but its not for me. The problem is that those pedals and devices eat up too much tone, and thats something I dont like. I want it all in one guitar. at least, as much as possible. thats one reason not to have it ofcourse. another is that I'm too lazy to always have a stompbox with me. I want it all in one guitar.

But I think I found something that is ok for me; the trisonic.

Know where I can get a diagram for #2?  I could figure it out but it would be much easier to just read it off of a diagram.

I designed it.I will draw it out, and upload it in a sec.

this is with coiltap aswell. I hope you can understand it. my paint-skills arent really that good....the blue thing is by the way earth for coiltap, and I hope you can understand the mastertone-bit.

what? NO! thats to fragile and precise!

I'd rather have a warmoth les paul  :icon_thumright: :laughing11:

What kind of pickup mounting rings are you using?  Is the LP a flat or carved top?  If its a carved top i was just curious about your pickup rings, i'm wanting to build something similar.
