Pickguard and Warmoths long frteboard on Strats

First, why does Warmoth make  the fretboard 1 extra fret, and what are you folks doing about the standard pickguard for Strats.
It seems a little silly to me to make two pieces to the same guitar that requires the neck to be removed to change pickups or switches.

Reminds me of working on older G.M. pickups, you have to loosen the fenders to get the emblems off !!

Are people just removing the neck over and over or are they reshaping their pickguards or fretboards?

i think the why is most players prefer 22 frets to 21. i leave the pickguards stock on mine. but if you anticipate changing out a lot of electronics i would modify the pickguard.

The reason for the fretboard extension is to give your instrument the extended range of one fret.
I can live with only 21 frets on a Strat rather than 22, but I absolutely cannot play a J or P bass that only has 20 frets, the 21st fret extension is absolute necessity to me.

On my Jazz basses, the neck doesn't have to come off to remove the pickguard. I can lift the bottom part of the pickguard up over the pickup and then slide it out.
Strats are a little different because there is a pickup at the neck position, and the pickups mount to the pickguard rather than the wood, so I don't know if it can be done or not.
Has anyone tried it with a Strat?

Choosing a 21 fret neck so that you can remove the pickguard without removing the neck sounds absolutely insane to me. Sorry.  :dontknow:
If you are changing your electronics often enough that you are concerned about the neck going on and off too many times, I would suggest neck bolt inserts number one, but perhaps you should consider a rear routed body instead of a top routed one.

I agree with line6man. If you are swapping out electonics that often you obviously need more guitars. Warmoth can help you there, too.
One of those things that seems like a problem only if you don't have a warmoth. I play that fret once in a while, so I guess I'm glad it's there.

They offer the 22nd fret because the Fender Amercian Standard Strats and Teles have 22 frets I would guess.  But Warmoth makes 3 neck styles, you don't have to have 22 frets.

Right - tfarney's got the solution. Instead of ever rewiring a guitar, just keep building new ones till you get a good one. :help:

Exactly! Wyliee, where's my commish?  :binkybaby:
Actually I have rewired a few of mine already, it's fun to mess around. But you can't be doing it so often that you're worried your neck bolts will get stripped out - that's time to get a new axe.
