you did that with aerosols right?

did you do the paint job?

Yes, I painted the guitar using Alsa Killer Cans automotive urethane aerosols. They have awesome colors and since they are urethane you can work pretty fast. The only thing that held up the project was waiting for the weather to be ideal. If you watch my video above you'll see that I became impatient and ended up having to start from scratch...

the alsa stuff is $40! thats insane! reranch sells their stuff for $15. is it worth it?

Reranch sells nitrocellulose lacquers. The clear coat of this type of lacquer will yellow over time. I have a Kramer guitar that I bought 20 years ago that yellowed up on me. I stripped that sucker down and am planning to re-finish it. I may try acrylic lacquer for my next guitar project. The Alsa Killer Cans are definitely worth the money.

I was worried about that orange peel too, but now its niceee and smoooth.

Very very cool guitar. God I love that black and maple combo! :icon_thumright:

Great video.
I have been debating experimenting with the Also stuff.
I feel your pain on the blushing...that is infuriating!

Have you wetsanded nitro?
I was wondering how the urethane is in comparison to nitro.
I imagine it's more work, but was wondering just how hard that stuff gets.

James

Thanks James...
I never wet (or dry) sanded nitro. I used a whole can of urethane clear and after 2 days it was hard as heck, ready to be fine sanded and buffed (which took about 3 hours). Don't know that it's more work than nitro.
PS: awesome job on your Holoflashed Lana guitar.

Thanks!

I just got around to sanding and buffing Lana this weekend, that turned into a very long project.
For that, I used a product called KTM9.  It sands back about as fast a nitro, and I was terrified of sanding through to some of that holoflash material
Luckily no incident.

My girlfriend is in France with the camera so no picks this week.

Here's how the guitar sounds...

What an appropriate name-------------Phoenix, rising from the ashes after a great refinishing job.

Sweet!

Personally I thought it looked sweet as a Phoenix "Tattoo" on a "Cow" Guitar (see 1:55-1:57) but that's just me (maybe on another guitar project :rock-on:
