Just bought one of these from an online store - you simply can't find them anywhere in Australia! :hello2: :blob7: :headbang:

http://www.petersontuners.com/index.cfm?category=73&sub=66

Paid $360 USD for this and shipping was an extra $73USD. Our currency conversion rate ain't too bad at the moment, and I am guessing this tuner would retail in Australia for at least $500 - 700 Aus. if not more if you could get them...

Difficult when you want to buy some quality pro gear from Australia when it can;t be sourced from within Australia for a reasonable price or simply it's not available. Went to 3 online retailers before finally finding one that shipped hardware overseas from the USA.

When the goods arrive in one piece and all working, I'll post the retailers info for those who live away from USA and may want some gear. Obviously if this turns out a disaster, I would have 'taken one for the team'  so to speak  :sad1: and will not post retailer info!

This Peterson, for those Aussies and Brits out there, has automatic global voltage selection up to 240VAC, so it's just a matter of getting the right AC plug for your particular wall socket.

If anyone's had experience with Peterson Tuners, particularly their Strobes, I'd like to hear of your experiences.

wow - I used a strobe years and years ago.  Always wanted another, but they are just so expensive.

Would've loved to get one that looked like an old Conn one but alas, all you can get is the Peterson range! Mind you, the StroboRack and others do have enhancements like the Sweetners tunings for not so perfect pitch instrument like guitars.

I have needed a better tuner for ages, the old Korg needle tuner has just about had it - been dropped too many times.

Looked around for the bee's knees if I could afford it, it was a toss up between going the full hog for Peterson or settling for the Korg DTR1000/2000 type. My poor hearing doesn't pick up the nuances in pitch that well anymore, so a good tuner is a must for me.

i have a strobe tuner app on my iphone

i may be the only one who bought it for a wopping $20 cuz there were cheaper apps. but this was the only strobe tuner that was chromatic. it also allows you to create custom temperments i put that idea in a review and 2 months later it was an update.

I've got the Peterson iPhone app.  I'm going to get the little adapter cable for it too, but it works well enough desktop style.  Very accurate as far as I'm concerned.

I have been using the V-SAM for the past few years. I love it.
I'm thinking about getting the StroboFlip as it's smaller and will fit in a guitar case.

I did think of the Flip and the VSAM. But I don't take my gear out, it stays at home and I do like the idea of the sweetners program.(I think that is on the Flip but maybe not the VSAM?  :icon_scratch:)

I have some rack space, so it will be housed in there and ready to go when needed.

Spent a lot of time using the Peterson iPhone app last night during rehearsal for our upcoming gig.

Executive summary:  It's great!  Best $10.00 ever spent.  Expensive for an iPhone app mind you...

does the peterson iphone app include the sweatened temperments? i have a strobe app from "hot paw" not the best UI but i can make up my own temperment. problem is it is very manual and there are no downloadable temperments i know of

Presently swapping emails with company about processing of charge to my credit card. They claim card cannot be 'verified', and the only thing I see a concern for any credit processing is that the card's expriy date is within 6 months. At one point, payment via Western Union was mentioned and straight away my ears pricked up.. If this deal can't be processed by credit card or through some secure means of payment, this deal is off. Will advise when more comes to hand.

don't know about austrailian banks but as long as the account is valid in my experience the expiration date is not really important especially if it hasn't passed. it is just used as one of many numbers that helps verify that you are the card holder.
when you get a new card they usually send another one with the same number, unless  :sign13: you have a new one coming in the mail so the banks records have the new expiration date, i guess that could throw it off?    :icon_scratch:  :tard:

Latest on this saga is:

There was no way I could use my Credit Card directly with this company, they kept harping on about 'verifying' the order whatever that meant. I had given them my CC details via secured pay method, which they have on their website, including the 3 digit ID number for the card itself. The order was under US$500, so I  am thinking the thing they were hoping to 'verify' was my credit rating which, of course, I do not have in the United States as I am not resident there! I can't understand how a company can offer this type of payment option to overseas customers then expect them to comply with some local national regulation that their banks have imposed upon them. I have never had any troubles before this, using my Credit Card for overseas purchases, never.

I really want this piece of equipment and to find one in Australia is rare, and if they are available I am guessing they are about 3 times the price you could buy one for in the USA (and yes, that includes the conversion rate to my currency and the shipping costs!!!). I have to buy it from overseas. I could source locally a smaller Peterson tuner like the VSAM or StroboFlip, but it would be way overpriced too.

In the end, I was given two options: PayPal or Western Union.

Went to PayPal and signed up, waited a few days for the old order to be cancelled on the account with the vendor (they did want me to buy another one on PayPal while the existing order was being cancelled, but I insisted that I wait til the old order was showing as CANCELLED), and then paid for another order via PayPal. Latest info is that the order had shipped 4 February. But.... when I did re-order there was allegedly a back order til 10 Feb., but as I cancelled a prior order maybe they kept the goods for me instead of putting me on back order.. :dontknow: They have , however, put the charge through to PayPal and the charge has arrived at my CC account, so I'm presuming the order is on it's way. If it doesn't turn up in a reasonable time, I get onto PayPal and see what can be done.

Sorry but I cannot recommend this company. Their ordering system is cumbersome and they do have warning posted up on their website about previous shams involving their company's name being used to scam people out of money using hoax emails etc.

If anyone is curious, it might be best to PM directly as I don't intend to get myself into strife by publicly mentioning this mob... While they do supply guitars and associated equipment, their usual line of business is in the more conservative area of music in orchestral instruments, percussion and brassband equipment.

Goods arrived for pickup at the local P.O. (usual practice when goods can't be delivered personally if I am not home) on 9 Feb. which is pretty good as they were shipped on 4 Feb.!

Now have the Tuner and a quick power up confirms it works. Will spend some of my time over the weekend running through what it can do. :occasion14:
