What didn't you like about Ebony and Rosewood?

Ebony has a very tight grain structure, doesn't it?
Rosewood is very open grained, but Pau Ferro is super tight.
Pau Ferro is also much harder than Rosewood, yet a bit softer than Ebony.

Tone-wise, I doubt if it would make much difference really, but Pau Ferro is brighter than Rosewood but warmer than Ebony.

My first bass had a rosewood fretboard and my Gecko has a Pau Ferro. I like the Pau Ferro better. On the other hand, the other bass was a Yamaha cheapie...and then a Peavy cheapy...then the Gecko! so the whole thing is much better  :icon_tongue:

There are guitars though that I love rosewood on. My V for example, has a Rosewood board that I love! smoothandfast!

I ask you also, "Vot yoo not loike bout de vrozevood orr eebonee finkerbort?"

I'm sorry,    I do like rosewood  I was cosidering the ferro because its available...looks cool too
BTW Its for guitar as opposed to bass
thnx again

Choosing a wood purely based on it being available to choose really isn't a good reason to want it.

In either case, I would definitely choose the Pau Ferro over Rosewood.
Were you considering a raw neck wood to go with it though, because you should be. :blob7:

Pau Ferro is an excellent fingerboard wood.  I believe that Stevie Ray Vaughn's strat had a Pau Ferro fretboard so you could listen to some of that and see if it works for you.

Yep.

I could have sworn that I heard somewhere that Stevie said it was his favorite fretboard wood too.

his strat had a veneer rosewood fingerboard. Though i've heard people say pau ferro was his favorite fingerboard there is no real evidence to suggest this. Though his signature model has pau ferro it was initially to be released as a limited run with brazilian rosewood boards. Due to the cost restrictions only those guitars made prior to stevies death are rumored to be the ones with brazilian boards and somewhere less than 100 of those exist. The rest are pau ferro.

I don't think there's a big diff. In terms of feel pao ferro is closer to ebony, which I love, and if I closed my eyes and someone handed me a guitar I don't think I could tell the difference. I've had plenty of ebony boards, have a couple now, and I have a pao ferro board.
