Paisley on a stick

I received the green paisley Tele today and it is hanging and ready to start working on.

My first challenge is to get the green color matched for the burst.  I tried to do it with the materials that I have in the shop and it was to muddy.  I am going to have to go with my contacts in the lacquer world.  I spoke to my Mac-Lac contact today and he said he could not do a dark color.  Val-Spar said they could do it if I wanted 100 gallons. :icon_scratch:  I’m going to try to call in some favors from the Val-Spar lab and see if they will hook me up with a gallon.

I’ll post pictures as I go so mayfly can chew his fingernails as he watches.  :o

Okay, Greg. I see your wall. How many projects are you going to make me wonder about?

There's the flame thinline.
Then there's the other thinline.
Then the paisley tele.

Seriously?

And how about that strat? :P

Oh yes, the fingers are a-chewing....  :blob7:

Get your finger nails done with acrylic tips.

In an attempt to stop myself biting my nails (something I have done since I have had teeth!) I went into a beauty salon and got all my nails tipped with false acrylic nails.

I told them I played guitar and the nails on the right hand (thumb, first and second finger) had to be stronger so I could pluck strings, and that the nails on my left hand had to be shorter than usual because I needed to feel the strings on the fretboard.

But because my nails are now 'covered' by the fakes I feel a lesser urge to bite them. At least for now.

Cannot described how I felt walking into a 'woman's' domain like a nail salon. Glad none of my football following mates saw me in their getting the nails done!  :o

BTW, McCartney has this done for one finger on his left hand, so he can fingerpick the acoustics guitars and do it at every gig. Otherwise, he just shreds the natural nail after a few gigs and is left with a plectrum to use. It's one of the few things that his second wife (now ex) done for him while they were together. :icon_thumright:

I use nail polish.  Some people use superglue.

You can get a clear nail polish that tastes like crap.  I can't remember what it is called though.  Much better option than the nail salon.

Okay, Greg. I see your wall. How many projects are you going to make me wonder about?

Here's the rundown.

The strat is the two-tone sunburst that I had to strip and redo because I got a burn through in the color. It was real slight (see the brighter yellow spot by the forearm rest) but I had to do it over because it needs to be perfect and it looked worse in person.  It looked like this before I stripped it and now it is ready to sunburst again but we have had a week of cold windy rain in Modesto.  The flame Tele was supposed to get sunbursted this week also.

The Tele Deluxe is jay4321’s and it is looking real good, it should be ready to rub out in a few weeks.

The vintage tinted start neck is the one that I stripped and am redoing as a Jazzmaster.  It looks real nice and will be ready to go in few weeks also.

The bass neck is for the 54 two-tone sunburst P-Bass that needs to be finished and the body rubbed out and put together.

I have another Tele that is being prepared for a Metallic Copper finish that is not hanging in the picture.  It has been shot with black lacquer and is waiting for the metallic.  I will post pictures of that when I get around to doing it.  I’m thinking of putting a B-Bender on that one so that will hold it up for quite some time.

And lastly the infamous Max inspired reverse orientation Strat.  That has been shot with white lacquer and it waiting for a Metallic called Fire Lining Red.  I think it will wind up looking like Burgundy Mist. I pulled that out of line to get mayfly’s Tele going.  Besides I need to get a neck ordered for it and I have to get some of these others out of the way.  I never name guitars but that one will always be know as Max.

PS Should I rename this thread “Fingernail Maintenance”?   :laughing7:

Are you ever content with just something average in your pictures? You threw around that picture of your amps, your guitars, your wall.. come on!

So, next week I should expect some updates?

Oh, and why not go the whole 10 yards with Max and even put my address on it. Then let the postal guy play it. Give him part of a stamp collection too. He's into that. He may keep it for a long time, though.

Worked my way around that stuff by the age of 10, hannaugh! Nah, called for drastic action and some humiliation thrown in for good measure. The thought of having to go back into a nail salon is a good reminder not to bite the nails. :laughing3:

I'm pretty certain the glue that was used to glue the fake nails onto the real ones, was super glue though. The nails won't budge - even when caught under a string [ouch]. I'm really having to go back to square 1 and re learn some technique.

How about "The Paisley Manicure"

And Damn Tonar, you almost got a wall of tele's..... get that strat outta there, and someone get Tonar another tele stat...:laughing7:

There's a nail salon in Nashville that has more male than female customers. Chet Atkins used to do his own with some kit, but Brent Mason, Johnny Hiland and all their wannabees hit the salon. I'm real girly about my nails - "Ooooh! I broke a NAIL!!" - but I just deal with it. Metal fingerpicks on a Tele are always nice, when you wanna wake the dead. Here's my new hero:

His teaching video is great - this song, note for note, and four others. I'm not sure what fingerboard wood you're supposed to use....

Ok here we go.  First thing was to deal with the color of the green and I found a killer metallic from Crescent Bronze Powder Company.  Here it is next to the original color mayfly had in mind.  After Trevor agreed to the change I have ordered up the powder and now I have to get ready for it.  First step is to get the edge ready for the powder by shooting black lacquer and building a smooth transition between the line of the paper and the wood.  This is the color and the process so far.

New color on the right.

Next tape it off using 1/4 tape for the outline.
