For my first Warmoth,i was going towards a strat style mahogany body with a flamed maple top (painted mary kay white), binding, and a black gloss back.

i was thinking of doing it myself..has anyone ever painted a transparent white paint before?..would the flame even show up?any tips,suggestions?..

thanks guys/girls..

MKW works best on ash - which has wide and dark grain stripes.

So, here's whatcha do...

Dye your flame top with a deep brown dye and sand and/or wash it back so you get maximum contrast between the dark and light parts of the wood.  Then do your MKW.

MKW is available from re-Ranch.  Using a yellowing nitro over it as clear coat will give you something that ages nicely.  Folks will argue this, but for my tastes, I'd say mask the top and back, and do the sides of the body to a nearly opaque state.  Then remove the masking, feather sand the edge of the finish you just applied so the "line" wont show when you apply more finish, and sort of burst the top with MKW.  Translucent in the middle and toward the edges, but definitely opaque at the edges.  Thats my take on it at least.
