Opinions? A cool custom look, or rare for a reason?

I like them, but they are nice when rare.

Car and motorcycle manufacturers do the same thing when there is not a body style or motor change from year to year.  BNG, or Bold New Graphics are way to make the year models differentiate and keep people wanting to buy the latest and greatest when nothing has really changed.

On the matching headstocks, they look best IMO when it is a "loud" color like a metallic finish.

I think they look great, and have always wondered why you don't see them more often. Maybe it has to do with making parts somewhat universal. A painted headstock ties it to a particular guitar, whereas a wood grain or black headstock can go on anything.

i like them with the right color scheme. i wanted to do a bright red strat with matching headstock. the price warmoth charges for a matching painted headstock seemed pretty insane though. i guess painting is expensive, no matter how small the area to be painted. so i'll be happy with my raw maple headstocks for now. i think they look great with a nice daphne or sonic blue guitar. kind of strangely, NOT with a black guitar. you'd think black guitar with a black headstock would be fine, but i think that looks a little weird.

Painted headstocks usually work great.

A lefty Warmothender... that's a Warmoth neck there with... no logo

I don't usually like it but that first guitar... maybe it's just the color. What IS it?

Tough to say. It's got a Fender decal on the headstock, so it could be damn near anything <grin>

I think it's a crime against humanity in most situations.
The musicman bass is the only one so far that looks decent.

It's an old (late 80's ~ early 90's) Fender Masterbuilt Eric Clapton Stratocaster in Sherwood Green Metallic.

It's a look that takes some getting used to, but I really dig 'em.

I agree with Super Turbo that the metallic colors look nicer than the non-metallic ones (below).

Superlizard's black one rocks (when it's turned the right way around. :laughing7:)

I think most colors would look better with a black headstock, but there are some rare occasions that matching color is in order such as the EB MM...Nice color blue too, I've always liked the blue and purple ones... :icon_biggrin:

I like it!

I always wanted a black (or white) contemporary strat!! I already have contemporary 22, but it doesn't have the black headstock.

Also on my wishlist since the late 80s: the HM Strat

That's not contemporary, that's 80's hairmetal Charvel-esque.... :headbang1: :party07:

The Flame and Quilted matching headstock veneers always had a bit of an unstable appearance to me.  When you can see the rest of the neck wood and it doesn't match the wood variety of the veneer (Quilted veneer on a BE or plain Maple neck - wait a minute!?), it's obviously a veneer.  Then I look at the beautiful Flame or Quilted top and wonder if it's a veneer too.  Blame it on the Fender Foto-flame or the PRS SEs with Flamed veneers that ruined for me.  Something unsettling.

Present Warmoth builds company accepted.
