P J Pickups

Just started putting together a P J Bass, but most of the pickups I've looked at are generally just P, or J pickups. Is there any reason I can't just buy a P bass pickup and a J bridge pickup or will their be hum? Otherwise I might just end up going with a Nordstrand PJ set.

Sure you can mix a P and J bass pickup in the same bass. Hum would not be because they are different types but due to the type of pickups.  Of course there a number of noiseless variants of the pickups available if avoiding him is preferable.
