The build is finished.  What started out as a 150 year old piece of pine is now a bass.  Talk about repurposing!!

This was SO easy and so challenging on some areas.  I custom made a neck jig because I am too cheap to buy one.  And I traced a Fender body for the shape and general route locations.  I took a lot of time to make sure everything lined up properly.

What was easy was the actual body finish.  After a rough cut with a band saw, I did some shaping with a hand sander.  My son wanted the lower horn cut a little deeper for access.  He wanted a rough look so I did not need to do a bunch of final shaping.  We then burned the body with a torch and used some rattle can poly.  I did have to fill some significant knots and holes with epoxy.  The neck is a Fender with the top burned and re coated.  Found these cool knobs at radio shack.  4 for $3.50

I tried to capture of the color of the body.  It goes from Black, to brown, to red in some of the knotty areas.  Enjoy.

Thanks.  He is playing it constantly.  It is very light.  Not sure if it is the pickups or the pine but it has a great punch to it.

That is extremely cool.  Dig it.

What's the scale length, is that a 34"?

honestly I cannot remember and my son has that bass as school.  It is a stock P Bass scale.  That is a Geddy Lee Fender neck I got off ebay.
