Order of operations questions on Mahogany body

Hey yo
I'm conflicted but thinking of a rosewood-ish finish.  Confused on the order I should do things.  I want to use a dark grain fill but think I need to shoot a couple coats of laquer first.  Or should I stain first?  Dye?  Sharpie???  LOve any advice but just want ot stay away from Cherry or the usual mahogany colors.  Maybe a trans black??
