Online versus phone ordering?

Hi guys,

I tried a search of this topic... no results.

In your experience, does it make a difference?
Mine will be a very straightforward order, but the hardware list is a little long.

Cheers, Ron

I order by phone unless it is something out of the showcase that I'm not changing.  If it is custom, always order it over the phone.  Sometimes there are options they can tell you about on the phone that aren't listed on the website, plus they'll ask you questions to clarify stuff as you go, which minimizes any confusion..  And they're fun to talk to.

If you aren't ordering a custom neck or body, online ordering works just fine.

I recomend you make a list of all the parts you need prior to ordering, it's easy to get done with your order and realize later you forgot neck bolts or some small item, and then have to make another order that must be $25.00 minimum.

I have ordered everything online. Both showcase- and build to order-stuff. But I am the silent type.

I guess you should choose what you're most comfortable with.

I always order online, but I've called them numerous times over the years. It's easy. The sales guys answer the phone directly - there's no waiting on a call routing or anything. They're also all very knowledgeable, and almost always have answers right off the top of their heads so you won't waste any time. Finally, they're a friendly bunch who aren't paid on commission, so it's not like walking into the wolf den a lot of music stores present.

To save a little time, you might wanna place your order online, then call to review it. If you don't have a "spare parts drawer" or a stash of fasteners, wire, etc., to draw from, your bill of material will need to be pretty complete. They'll be able to spot if you've forgotten screws or something.

Thanks Cagey,
I'm doing all black hardware. Screws, control plate, bridge, etc... don't have any black in my stash.
I didn't want to "tie up" one of the sales guys for too long.
Nice to know that they can review my order and update it, if necessary.
Plus, I do have a few questions.

Cheers, Ron

I have ordered online before, but just pickguards and such.  I really prefer ordering over the phone. They are always very helpful and courteous. Plus, they usually remind me of something that I had forgotten to order which is nice.  Because if you forget some little thang, you have to live with that $25 minimum order fee.
Good luck &  :rock-on:

I've done both my orders online, but I haven't gone with anything not on the regular menu.  My second order did involve a smidge of email (initiated by Warmoth) where it was offered something that I hadn't considered (black face dots, white side dots).

Thanks guys,
I think I'll feel better talking to a real person...
It's a relatively simple (I think) order, but it's my first complete build.
Already have a couple of necks.
I promise pics, when she's done.

Don't worry about wasting their time.  They literally get paid to do this and will spend as long as necessary to take your order.  Have fun, after all its part of the experience they are selling you.

All my orders (plenty) have just been via email / on line. But I'm in Australia.
That was showcase and custom builds.

Like others have said, write a FULL list of ALL parts needed.
That's speaking from experience, as I have had to order and then wait for silly missed small bits.

If I'm getting something stock from the showcase I just always order online; custom orders require a phone call.

I tend to always call.  For some reason I feel more assured about things when the details have been explained.  Then again, most of the things I get are different, and I want to be sure about the little things.  It is enough money that I get over the hermitism and communicate.
Patrick
