This beautiful lass showed up as I was leaving for work last night.
I was surprised and happy to see I got  one piece body, luck o' the draw.

Can't wait to get started on this one!

That is a nice piece of ash, how do you plan on doing the finish ?

I see its a single pickup but a hard tail this time.

love me a hard tail....

gonna do the body in black stain, then grain fill with pumice/BLO, trying to achieve the Collings Dog hair style finish.

then it's getting paired with a Canary/Pau Ferro Vortex.

So what do you do, stain it then grain fill? Any particular brands work better for this type of finish?

Yes, and Not Sure.
This is an experiment.
Giving the current results and the way its shaping up, I may hit it a couple more stain coats and say screw the filler.

I am digging it as is.

Obviously it won't do a real "doghair" finish at the current level of color, but it's a very nice look nevertheless.  You could do worse than to just deepen the color, fill with matching paste filler, and call it a day.

Yeah, it's funny how we build these grand plans up in our heads.

Well, I am gonna keep going and see where it takes itself.

If you want a nice dark, opaque black try india ink. It's not to expensive and it's SRSLY black.

Yeah I can always go that route if I can't get what I want from the Minwax.

I got a Blick right around the corner from work, so it is always an option.

There are amazing similarities between food coloring, most bottled inks, and water-based wood dye. Fountain pen ink is like 99% RIT dye, but I wouldn't want to drink ink, because the other 1% is some nasty preservatives like tuolene etc.

Update, so Minwax SUCKS.... :laughing7:

So, I popped over to the local Blick today, and snagged a bottle of Sumi-e ink.
