Hi guys

Below you can see some pics of the body of a (very cheap) guitar I had when I was a teen. Today I completely disassembled it driven by the idea of using the body as starting point for a new guitar (that will feature a Warmoth neck, of course  :icon_biggrin: ). The body's obviously cheap but I'm looking to understand: 1-what kind of wood it is made of. 2- Is there any major flaw in bridge routing/drilling. 3- Worth using. The body, as it is righ now, weights 1220 gr or 2,68 lbs... very light. When I took the neck away it just came off in the moment I unscrewed the 4 bolts, so I don't know if the neck's too thin at the bottom or the neck pocket's too loose. Any help from you will be much apreciated  :help: Thanks guys

Looks like "Asian Ash" to me...  I'd VERY carefully measure that neck pocket, if it deviates at all from the Fender/Warmoth spec the build might be more trouble than it's worth...

Looked like ash to me too. The neck pocket measures 56mm x 76mm x 16mm that looks like it's the same as the Fender/Warmoth specs so, I think, the looseness was from the neck itself. Thanks for the help!

Just did some conversions to the inches they use. It is .5mm wider than the warmoth width(Across).
Less than .1mm less than the 3 inches of the warmoth length(Along).
And 0.004ish mm taller than the depth of a warmoth neck pocket.

Not saying it wont work. They look like small figures but i wouldn't be sure about guitar necks being a bassist.

Just thought i'd give those with knowledge an easy comparison from what you measured the neck pocket as.  :)

Thanks for taking the time to confrontate the measures but as I can read on the Warmot "will it fit my guitar?" page http://www.warmoth.com/Guitar/Necks/faq2.aspx looks like the measures of the above neck poket are spot on (56x76x16), right? Maybe would be also useful to compare the 4 bolts position measures I think. Thanks agai for the help  :icon_thumright:

 Sorry didn't remember about that page. Yeah it should be fine then. again this is coming with a not built a guitar disclaimer hehe.

When you order a neck you can get it ordered without the bolt holes so long as the holes there already on the body neck pocket don't hit the truss rod (They shouldn't if they are in a rectangle shape so to speak) Which means you can then drill the pilot holes for the neck where the holes on the body are.

Hope that made sense typed in a rush

I've measured the old neck and it's 54mm wide at the heel, so looks like the looseness was neck's fault. Thanks again for your help, this's my first assembling/built and you guys on the borad are wery helpful  :)

You could order your Warmoth neck with no screw holes and it won't matter if your body deviates from Warmoth/Fender's specs. Just use the body holes as the template for your neck screws.
