I recently canceled an order through GC's website. It took three emails to convince them I really wanted it canceled, and a fourth to get a refund.

Then I get an email back offering me a special discount on the item I was trying to buy. Roughly $20 off of a $300 order. I clicked on it to view the details and found one thing had changed - instead of free shipping ($300 + $0 = $300), the shipping was $20 ($280 + $20 = $300).

What kind of ig'nant buttheads do they think their customers are?

Had to share!
:tard: :toothy12:

I am so over them, its not funny.  The local staff is fresh out of zombieland.  Online... even the MF site... not too friendly.

Yeah, guitar center is incredibly horrible, HORRIBLE! I got a 1994 metallic red PRS mccarty (used) from a guitar center 2 hours away from where we live, I saw it online in the used section of Guitar Center's website, so I called and asked the manager to e-mail me a bunch of pictures of the guitar, and SPECIFICALLY asked for any details regarding damages, blemishes, etc. (they were asking $1450 for the mccarty) he told me there was a few scratches and that was it, and that he would e-mail me some pictures so I could see it better before I drove all the way out there. Anyhoo, they sent me some really crappy, blurry photos, so I called back and complained, and the manager apologized and sent some more, and it looked okay, I asked if that was the best price they could do, and they said they'd give it to me for $1300. So the wife and I drove up there, and when they pulled the guitar out, it had a HUGE gash and dent on the bottom (all the way down to the wood, and it had a chunk taken out!) by the strap-button, which they "neglected" to show! Anyway, to make a long story short, I threatened them that I was going to walk out the door and there would be hell to pay if they didn't give me the guitar for a cool $1000, and they did! (haha, probably because I threatened to slap a lawsuit on them and have their jobs! haha! I had proof from the managers in e-mail that nothing was wrong with the guitar)

ANYWAY, all that to say, Guitar Center you suck!!

The strap-button was slammed INTO the body of the guitar, must've fallen off the wall or something. Anyhoo, it's fixed, I just need to get rid of the EMG's in it....

yeah, like a small mom-and-pop kinda store, I'd love to have one of those, I'd just play guitar all day though! ha!

That's where i go! There's a nice store in Indianapolis that's run buy a really nice guy in the Broadripple neighborhood. I only use GC as a last resort
I think I've got my neck down pretty well, but I'll probably take it to him for a more professional setup.

I'm thinking running a small music store would be cool to do.

Not really, musicians usually are a pain in the butt!
But hey, I dream to be a luthier! :laughing7:

The only mom-and-pop shop near me seemingly makes its own hours daily, which is part of why I can't use them. I never know, if I drive out of my way to get there, if its going to be closed at 3PM on a weekday or not.

Yeah it'd be cool until they opened a guitar center next door and offered lower prices to push you out of business.

Why not take down their phone number and call in when you want to drive down there to see if they will be open? :icon_scratch:

I really should, they've got nearly the full line of Mesa/Boogie bass amps in stock.. not much else as far as amps go, but who needs anything else? I can't afford them but I did touch one once and it felt really good.

Having my own shop has always been one of my long term goals, if i had the resources i would be on top of that, there's nothing of the sort except for the pawn shops around here, and a pawn shop just doesn't suffice for most musicians needs
I can't believe anyone around here hasn't done so already. but ugh, so is the state of my town, this place thrives on music, yet no one seems to realize that.

Maybe they're all scared their shops will burn down. This is you, right?

i've called musician's friend with questions. for the most part they're pretty helpful. never made a big order through them though, i usually go to sweetwater online for that. sweetwater's selection isn't huge, but they've got most of what i'm looking for.

Not quite.  More like they only had $600 into it, and were very happy to take your cool $1000 on it.

Try trading or selling at GC....

Against my advice, a co-worker went in to trade his pretty nice 57 reissue Strat (sunburst).  They offered him $275 for it.  The thing was spotless.  I wanted it, would gladly have paid the going ebay price for one. - gotta be around what $750 or more?  No, he took the $275 for it.  I drove up there the next weekend - tag was $1000.  The greedy sales-zombie offered it to me for $800 plus $75 for the used case.

GC is a very good example of the "stealer-dealer" concept.

I hate Guitar Center.  I wish I had my own guitar store chain just so our slogan could be "We don't hire morons," because you know EVERY guitarist would know exactly what we were referring to.

A similar thing happened to me when I bought my Gibson Les Paul Std. in 2004.
It costed $4675, but since I had recently bought my Diezel Herbert, and Bogner Cabinett and some other stuff for the cute price of about $7000, the seller told me that I could get a discount on $1000 for the guitar...
Two weeks later, the store I bought it from lowered the price on all Gibson guitars with.... guess what.... $1000!!!!!!!
