So my Warmoth H/H pickguard arrived today which means I now have all the parts for my first Warmoth and I can finally get started. So first things first I decided I'd throw the pickups into the pickguard and wire them up which for this build would be a Suhr SSV+ bridge and a Suhr DSV neck. I proceed to take the SSV+ out of its box, unwrap the wire from it and put it in the bridge position of the pickguard. So far so good. Now I take the DSV out of its case, flip it over to unwrap the wire and what do I notice..........

...despite the box saying 50mm neck it contains a 53mm bridge pickup :(

This is gonna set me back around 2 weeks now :(

What pabloman said.  You're likely to get a very pleasant surprise when you find that 3mm worth of coil width doesn't make a great difference in the usability of the pickup tone.

The bridge model of the DSV has an extra 1k of DC resistance bringing it up to 9k so it would probably balance well with the SSV+ which is 10k, I'm just worried how the string spacing will look aesthetically. The shop I bought it from have had a few reports of mislabelled Suhr pickups so they are willing to exchange and cover all postage but it does mean putting my build on hold for 2 or 3 weeks as they are based in the US and im in Ireland.

Eh.....put it in anyway.....you might like it.

+ Lots. As far as aesthetics go you might want the polepieces lining up, but you'd have the best ear in the world if you could hear the difference. But if it's going to be something that bothers you then don't even hesitate, send it back. Getting everything exactly as you want is what Warmoth is all about after all.

If it bugs you, send it back. But don't think for a moment that it matters sonically or to anyone else. I guarantee you that you won't lose any groupies due to having three extra millimeters there....

Actually since it's wound for the bridge position you may not care for it. It's important to hit the sweet spot with the pickup height and since this pickup is a little hotter than you would like it to be in the neck position, you may have to lower it too much to hit the sweet spot. Also having the prescribed amount of winding will give the proper tonal characteristics i.e. "woody" if that's what your after.

All that said of course, you could put it in and find it's not only just fine it's great. I would be concerned more about the wind than the pole spacing any day. If it were a customer of mine I would tell them to stick it in and enjoy it until a replacement arrives since it was the makers mistake. Perhaps you can approach them in a nice way ( which you would probably do anyway ) and suggest this solution. I'd bet they would be more than willing to work it out.

*Edit- I just realized your in Ireland. That does complicate it a bit, but you never know until you ask!

I have to say, if this niggling detail bugs you enough to bring it up, it will probably continue to bug you even if you decide to bite the bullet. I say send it back and get exactly what you asked for in the first place. Two weeks wait is worth peace of mind.

OT: it is true that Suhr pups are provided with no plan and no mounting ring (humb)?
