Hi everyone, I am considering buy my first Warmoth neck and was curious if anyone can give me some details on nut widths. Out of the 5 electric guitars I currently own, not one of them has a nut width of 1- 5/8" or 1-11/16. Even though they are speced as either 1-5/8, or 1-11/16, they are slightly bigger or smaller. Does Warmoth round up or down to get their specs, or are they exact? A 64th of an inch makes a big difference in comfort to me. If anyone has a digital caliper can they check there nut width for me. I tried to get this info from Warmoth, but they never got back to me. The measurement can be in fractions, decimals, or mm.

Thanks

Paul

In my experience with over 10 warmoth necks they do vary a bit; the most variation occurring with woods that require a finish.  Necks that don't require a finish seem to be more exact.  Roasted maple is the Bomb!

Warmoth writes the actual nut width measurement on the heels of all their necks - presumably after sanding but before any finish. If you're looking at showcase necks this is sometimes legible but even if it isn't you could always ask for the specific measurement of a neck that otherwise meets your needs (and hopefully they'd tell you). If you're planning a custom build, you'd have to accept a certain amount of variation..

Somewhere in between those two measurements is a good fit for me. If the 1-5/8 was slightly bigger than 1-5/8, I would get that one. If the 1-11/16 is slightly smaller than 1-11/16, I would get that one.
