Ran across this pine Meteora on Etsy from a seller named PlingPloing and impulse bought it. Gave me strong Novo vibes. As luck would have it, 2 days later this paddle headstock neck showed up in the showcase, and it was an instant buy. It had been discounted for a tiny chip on the back top corner of the paddle which matters none to me! I've always wanted a star inlay neck, but never wanted to cough up the money for something I might decide looks stupid. I love the 42mm nut width, even if the ever omnipresent standard-thin profile and 10-16 radius aren't my top choices. First guitar with filtertron-style pickups. Went cheap with GFS GF-Trons since I wasn't sure how the guitar would come out, but I'm very pleased with how they sound. I always thought Fender never was wild enough with the designs for the Meteora, so I went all out! Most wiring I've ever put in a guitar. Can't believe I got it to work on the first try! Standard tele-style 3-way blade switch. I originally wanted to use a crossfader, but could never find a part in the right size and values. Gold fader is master volume, black faders are passive treble and bass cuts respectively. Volume has a selectable treble bleed from Mythos pedals, and the tone faders have variable caps from Mythos as well. The bottom button is a standard-issue kill switch, but the top is a momentary boost using the Blaster onboard boost also from Mythos. It's completely ridiculous. The Duesenberg trem is very smooth and the thing plays great. I decided to go for the momentary boost because I knew with the quieter 'tron pickups I'd just be addicted to having it on, and I can confirm I was right. Already thinking about building another guitar using TVJones with an always on boost it's so good. Wait 'til you see how I was able to use the cutoff from the headstock!
...and yeah Spud, the body does kinda look like balls. I'll never unsee that now, thanks.
