Not Warmoth, but kinda cool anyway (les paul triplets inside)

Except, when he does what the customer tells him:

I own the album that chapman stick/regular bass hybrid made it's debut on, it may look ugly but it sounds incredible.

I think he could have gotten a few more clamps on the guitar on the very right.... :icon_biggrin:

Yep, I think I still see some wood in the center there

Lol the blue one looks like a mutant PRS.

That semi-hollow is looking really nice.
+1, the Les Paul is looking good, and the blue thing looks like a PRS gone wrong. Horns are way out of proportion to the rest of the body.... :tard:

I so agree. but hey, the owner likes it this way, and who are we to argue?

it took some time for another update, but we're back in business!

the tops for my bodies: rosewood in front, wenge on the back

Snakewood for the fingerboard of my bubinga semi hollow. this is what the builder said about it:

this chunk of snakewood has been lurking around the timber store for years and I haven't had the guts to cut into it.. finally there is a need.. and a guitar worthy of it!! .. a flat surface is planed in..

just an idea of how it will look like when its oiled and polished.

removing frets, and later on the fretboard, because I wanted snakewood, not english walnut...

up in the clamps...

just an idea of whats going on in the shop...

flattening the fretboard.
dscf4738.jpg

radiusing the fretboard. normally, Ben will do it with a shave and then with sanding paper,  but because snakewood is brittle, he's doing it with sanding paper and a template.

I'm a lucky bastard huh!

Doing the fretslots

Its snakewood, with cat-eye holes, and I wanted something to match, regarding the inlay. So: cat eyes! MoP+abalone.

making the inlay cavities

Glue will be cleaned off later this week.

My girlfriend thinks these eyes are butt ugly, but I dig 'm. She'll get chrome hardware with novatron pickups. they're designed to give many, many tones! gretsch dynasonic, filtertron, rickenbacker jangly tones, but also arsekickin' crunchy, dirty rock 'n roll. this baby is due to be one of my more versatile axes, for everything except heavy metal.

Also, the neck was too thin at first, so the snakewood is thicker than on a normal guitar, to give me that 0.975'' thickness. thicker was not possible, unfortunately. And yes, stainless steel frets, as usual.

Have a nice week!

I follow Ben's workshop diary slavishly... It's great stuff. I'm definitely going to spend some money there in the future. IIRC his rates are actually pretty reasonable, especially given that he builds bespoke handmade guitars.
