Hello folks. So I have a pair of GFS Power Rock Neovin pickups installed on a GFS tele I put together and it seems to pickup the sounds of all the parts on the body pretty loudly, even when the leather on my strap rubs against the body! Its especially noticeable when I strum hard and mute the strings, I hear the ringing on the metal bridge, also if I tap on any of the metal parts, bridge or control plate, it rings through loud and clear. I've had guitars with metal parts before and have never encountered this problem, any thoughts?

Thank you

Could be your pickup has gone microphonic.

HEre's a video that demonstrates what a microphonic pup acts like:

I agree with the microphonic pickup diagnosis. You can either remove the covers altogether, or pot the pickups. Potting them isn't particularly difficult if you like the covers, but you do have to be careful to use a double boiler or a thermostatically-controlled heating pot, as hot wax is surprisingly combustible. It's almost like a grease fire, so the less flame there is around, the better off you are. There's a bit of an article here from Lindy Fralin, and there are others available on YouTube.

Just as an aside, those pickups are supposed to be potted already. It might be worth an email to GFS to see if they'll just replace them. I've used a number of their pickups, including neovins, and have never had a problem with microphonics, plus their customer service is good. Could save you some messy trouble. You'd have to remove them either way, so...

I second that.
