This isn't really a Work in Progress, as I did it five years ago, but since this corner of the UW site seems to be the place I post in the most often, I figured this was the best place to share it.

An epic post that tells the story of how one man and a router made the world's most bizarre 5150 replica.

Very cool. :icon_thumright:

About a year ago, I had the idea to make a set of wooden EVH drink coasters with Bloodwood, curly Maple and Gaboon Ebony. I was going to source some scrap wood and get going, but like a lot of my projects, I sort of got busy with other things and never got started. It's still on my to do list, after I finish up my Curly Maple/Claro Walnut body.

That is an amazing process with stunning results. I couldn't inlay anything to save my life.  The danish oil sure made the woods pop!

I'm fairly certain your color order of Eddies guitar is backwards though.  I believe he started with a black guitar, then masked off the bits & sprayed white, then a while later on masked those & did the red.

Autobat, the original 'frankenstrat' (VH1-Diver Down) was black then white, then red later as companies started to copy the B/W design.

The Kramers were white, then red, finally black.

It would be fun to do the VHII 'Bumble Bee' with ebony and something like Osage, but it would weigh a TON.

Very impressive indeed! didn't you post in progress pics many years ago? or was that on the old unofficial W forum?

Marko, that may have been back when I was building it, on another forum, run by the guy who built the neck (and stole $400 from me).

I've starred in awe at that the first time I saw it for about an hour, just like a dear looking into headlights. Just stunned at what I was seeing, it has to be the most amazing guitar I've ever seen, and even though the candy stripped has been over done enuff to make me puke, that is just the pinnacle of awesomeness... :headbang1:

Dude - there's medication to help.  Next thing you know you'll be making model Ferrari's with working everything is 1/24 scale internal combustion engines.  Get help now before we see you on TLC.

That looks so awesome! I'm not quite sure why I never thought about doing something like that, but damn you made it look nice.
